Revealed by the Buddha 2,500 years ago, the precise form of the Stupa possesses the power to strengthen goodness and defuse negativity. As a receptacle for offerings, prayers, and devotion, the Stupa fosters humanity's highest aspirations.

In the eastern direction of the Odiyan mandala, the Enlightenment Stupa  rises 113 feet high, the first large-scale stupa in America. Revered across Asia as a symbol of Enlightenment, the Stupa's architecture represents specific steps along the path to Awakening. Built in 1980 according to precise instructions of the tradition, empowered with sacred art and texts and the relics of the Enlightened Ones, the Odiyan Stupa radiates positive energy that fosters harmony in  nature, peace on earth, and happiness for all beings.

Ceremonies are held at the Enlightenment Stupa in accordance with the lunar calendar.

About half of the Odiyan community members are lay-Buddhist practitioners and ceremony participants.

While walking around the outside of the Enlightenment Stupa, the participants offer prayers on behalf of all beings, and those for whom the ceremony is sponsored. The blessings accumulated during a ceremony are considered very powerful.

Ceremonies are sponsored for such things as: good health, recovery from illness or injury, assistance in the transition of death, welcoming births, birthdays, longevity, financial success, to find a new job, etc.

Bell-ringing ceremonies are also offered at the Vajra Temple.
